1. Definition

Procedure Text is a type of text that explains how to do something or how to make something through step-by-step instructions, so the reader can follow them correctly.

2. Purpose

The purpose of a procedure text is:

• To tell how to do something
• To explain how to make or use something

Examples:

• How to make a cup of tea
• How to use a washing machine

3. Generic Structure

A procedure text has the following structure:

1. Goal / Aim
   States the purpose or what will be made or done.
2. Materials / Ingredients (optional)
   Lists the tools or materials needed.
3. Steps / Methods
   Shows the steps or instructions in correct order.

Simple structure:

4. Language Features

A procedure text usually uses:

• Imperative sentences (command sentences)
  → mix, cut, turn on
• Action verbs
  → boil, add, pour
• Simple Present Tense
• Sequence words
  → first, next, then, finally

How to Make a Cup of Tea

Goal:
To make a cup of tea.

Materials:

• A cup
• A tea bag
• Hot water
• Sugar (optional)

Steps:

1. First, put a tea bag into the cup.
2. Then, pour hot water into the cup.
3. Next, add sugar if you like.
4. After that, stir the tea well.
