DEFINITION
A
season is a part of the year with its own kind of weather. Seasons happen
because the Earth goes around the Sun and tilts a little, so different places
get different amounts of sunlight. This makes the weather change and gives us
four main seasons: spring, summer, autumn (fall), and winter. Each season has
its own temperature, daylight, and activities people like to do.
- Spring
Spring
is the season after winter, usually from March to May in the northern part of
the world. The weather gets warmer, snow melts, flowers grow, and trees get new
green leaves. People like to garden, have picnics, and enjoy the fresh air.
Birds return from warmer places, and many animals wake up from their winter
sleep. The days slowly become longer, giving more sunshine for outdoor fun.
- Autumn
autumn
or fall comes after summer, usually from September to November. The air feels
cooler and the leaves on trees turn yellow, orange, or red before they fall.
Farmers pick fruits and vegetables, and there are many harvest festivals.
People start to wear warmer clothes as the nights get chilly. Animals gather
food to prepare for the coming winter, and the days slowly grow shorter.
- Summer
comes
after spring and usually lasts from June to August. It is the hottest time of
the year and the days are the longest. Many people go to the beach, swim, camp,
or play sports. It is also a favorite time for holidays and fun events.
Children have school breaks, so families often travel together. People wear
light clothes, drink cool drinks, and enjoy the bright, sunny weather.
- Winter
Winter
is the coldest season, usually from December to February. Days are short and
nights are long. Many places have snow or ice. People like to ski, skate, make
snowmen, and celebrate holidays such as Christmas and New Year. Families often
stay indoors to keep warm, drinking hot drinks and enjoying cozy fires. Some
animals hibernate, while others grow thick fur to stay safe from the cold.
